Just Dance 2022 Review

Gaming Hound - Just Dance 2022 (Nintendo Switch) Review - Saffron Taylor

Just Dance…Seriously!

Picture this: you start up Just Dance 2022, the loading screen comes on and you hear the echo of ‘Just DANCE (dance…dance…dance)’. You’re in your fitness gear (even if it’s just a baggy t-shirt and leggings, I’m not judging here!) with a water bottle in one hand and Joy-Con in the other, ready to get moving. You press the A button, and ‘Baby Shark’ suddenly starts blaring at max volume from the World Dance Floor at the top of the screen.

Now, I would like to introduce everyone to the world of Just Dance. I’m not a gym person at all, in fact I’m admittedly a hermit, but I need to get my exercise just like everyone else. Dancing in general is fun, and to be able to do it from the comfort of your own home via a video game is honestly a godsend. Everybody should give these games a try, even if it is a £1 copy of Just Dance 2 from the charity shop. You just need to get moving and have fun while doing it! I’m having a blast getting all the moves wrong in Blackpink’s ‘Boombayah’!

There’s a whole variety of songs to choose from, such as classics like A-ha’s ‘Take On Me’ all the way to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’. Low to intense difficulties depending on your dance style. Make playlists based on your skill, music taste or mood. Whatever you like! Rack up points if you hit the marks correctly and maybe you could even be ‘Dancer of the Week’. (JDLuvvaXx12, I’ll beat you one day.)

I’ve only played a few other Just Dance games and to be honest they’re kind of the same each year, so I tend to wait a year or two until I get another. Just Dance Unlimited is an extra service you can pay for, and I find it is worth the money as it’s rather cheap and you get access to hundreds of songs from all the other versions of the game from over the years. So, if you do skip a year of Just Dance, you can just get Just Dance Unlimited after and get the songs from the previous year. You would save a fair bit of money then!

That being said, you may not get all of the previous songs from the game before. If you see a song you really like on the newest track list then by all means go for it! Layouts and features can change all the time too. In Just Dance 2022, one new feature is that some of the songs have had a serious upgrade in graphics. They’re still very colourful and wacky but look a lot more realistic. Maybe one year in the future you could have a hologram dancer right there in your living room! Sounds kind of terrifying…maybe I won’t buy Just Dance 2040 when it comes out.

You can also customise your profile! Earn ‘Mojo’ by leveling up when dancing or do the daily challenges that have been set. You then play the Gift Machine – which looks like a capsule machine – and you use the Mojo so it can expend something at random. It could be a new title so you can tell the world you are the ‘CEO of Moves’, a colourful backdrop or one of the various avatars. They did remove the stickers in this version which you could also previously get from the machine. Nothing major but it was a bit of extra fun earning stickers too.

If I were to rate Just Dance 2022, it would be an 8/10. Nothing earth-shattering new in this besides the graphics. However, more songs are being added throughout the year! So even if you exercise for one day and put it down for five months, there will still be something new to go back to! This game is for all ages, all body types and especially anyone who loves dancing and video games and just wants a fun workout routine at their own pace. Find what fits YOU best.
