Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) Review
Gaming Hound - Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) Review - Saffron Taylor
It’s Moblin Time
So, I have recently been playing The Legend of
Zelda: Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) and have had a blast! It’s a
lot different to other games in the series but sometimes it’s good to have a
change. If any of you have played Kingdom Hearts 2 and remember the pain
of the 1000 Heartless battle with Sora? It’s basically that but an entire game,
and you can play as different beloved characters from The Legend of Zelda
series, such as Link and Zelda themselves, or you can be Fi, Midna, Ganondorf
and more!
This game comes with a variety of modes. ‘Legend Mode’
is the story campaign as you start off with Link and Zelda, then meet
characters like Impa, Sheik, Lana and others along the way. Battle hordes of
enemies in locations such as Hyrule Field and Faron Woods. In ‘Free Mode’ you can
replay scenarios from ‘Legend Mode’ but with any character of your choosing.
‘Adventure Mode’ starts with an overview of the map of
the original game. You can use different characters to unlock squares after
finishing a set challenge. There are other maps based on other games in the
series (like Twilight Princess), but they progress in difficulty. ‘Challenge
Mode’ is similar to ‘Adventure Mode’ but without the maps. You take on a few difficult
challenges in the different scenarios instead of story progression.
The ’Bazaar’ is an important section where you can
fuse and upgrade weapons, level up characters and craft badges using monster
loot from the scenarios that you find while playing. Just be careful you don’t
accidentally sell a good weapon or fuse the wrong thing…not naming anyone that
did that (me).
View the gallery and look at extras like character
models and cutscenes, or illustrations after you pick up the respective pieces
after killing a Gold Skulltula that randomly appears during battles. You can
also listen to the Music Player. This series has beautiful soundtracks!
The further you progress it gets fairly difficult,
which is to be expected, but I can’t and won’t tell you how many times I’ve lost
during the game. You finally save the Hylian Captain from being ganged up on only
to then lose because you were on the other end of the map to the Allied Base
that has now been taken over, and you must restart from a checkpoint or the entire
scenario. Maybe that’s just me being a terrible gamer but we won’t go into
that.
Overall, I enjoyed this game, but it can get a bit repetitive.
The modes have different tasks but pretty much the same gameplay throughout. My
wrist hurts from bashing the Y and X buttons so much! I’d give it a 7/10 as
it’s thoroughly entertaining and has a lot of replayability but there comes a
point where you get tired of doing mostly the same thing every time. I
recommend it for fans of the series who purely just want some mindless fun with
all kinds of characters and fresh gameplay.
